Day Hiking to Tunnel Creek (8-8-2010) -Buckhorn Wilderness (9.5 miles round trip with 2450ft gain)
Tunnel Creek is located in Bunkhorn Wilderness. Since
it's my first hike to Buckhorn Wilderness, I was excited to hike this trail.
This hiking was sponsored by Peninsula Wilderness Club (PWC) that allowed the
Kitsap Outdoors (that I belong) to join them. Joining the PWC was $25 but I was
reluctant to join the PWC since I’ve already joined the Kitsap Outdoors. Weather
was foggy and overcast all day. Good forest hiking along the Tunnel Creek. Saw
some old growth: Rings on a big down Dougrass fir was well more than 1000! Not
much wild rhododendron unlike the MT Townsend (located about 5-6 miles north).
At the ridgetop, fog covered the surrounding. No view of the mountains: supposed
to be Mt Constance on the SW, The Brothers and Mt Jupiter on the South, and Hood
Canal on the East.
